Beherit have never been the most polished Black Metal band in existence – quite the opposite in fact – and this couldn't be more true than with At the Devil's Studio 1990 – just released in 2011 but recorded more than 20 years earlier. I've heard more chaotic than this album, but it still ranks pretty high on that scale. Even to the initiated, this sounds pretty fucking messy and at times it sounds like they're just jamming at random without having any clue of what each other are playing. The vocals are barks and for the most part completely undecipherable – at times they even sound like distorted noise rather than actual vocals. Lots of cacophonic carnage to be found here – which is what I expect from this band, and they deliver. Things are more disciplined when the band slows down a little on some tracks, where you can find a hint of "melody", but overall this is an album that will only cater to fans of very raw, lo-fi Black Metal. You've been warned. ;)
