Monumentor's 2012 EP Medusa's Throne seems to be going for an early 80s, proto-Thrash style of Metal, with a nod to the NWOBHM. Half-shouted, half-sung vocals, simple riffs and tinny drums bring to mind the initial works of bands like Venom, Angel Witch and even Celtic Frost. I'm usually a sucker for all things 80s but the songs are plain and derivative, bringing nothing new to the table. If you are a fan of the old Neat Records muddy, under-produced sound you might like Medusa's Throne, otherwise there's not much here of interest. |
