I've been listening to Prolonging the Pain off and on for a few weeks now and still can't think of much to say about it. It's definitely not bad, but it's not mind-blowing either. Basically this is "standard" fast-paced, heavy Death Metal devoid of any gimmicks – and that definitely puts it more in the "good" than in the "bad". The vocals are pretty good, the growls being neither of the modern screamo style nor of the juvenile "puking-my-breakfast" variety. Musically this is pretty much relentless – when it's not fast, it's crushingly heavy and skull-pounding all the while without falling the trap of being a monotonous wall of sound – the songs are distinct enough and the soloing definitely lifts up some of this stuff. Laceration Mantra don't invent anything, but what they do, they do well. They just need something to stand out from the crowd. |
