Donn are a young band from the UK, a side project of a guy who calls himself Donn, along with two of his bandmates from Teutoburg Forest. This is a massive, fat album of crushing guitars and venomous vocals, but not a lot of dynamic. At first this grabs your attention because it has a vicious guitar sound and a lot of bottom end to the mix, so it really bludgeons you. When Donn slow down they sound really good, producing some nicely thuggish Celtic Frost-styled riff-hammers. When they play fast they sound a lot less individual and more generic. The songs overall don't have a lot of shape, and just kind of blare away until they run out of steam and stop. This is noisy and abusive, but ultimately shallow despite its pretensions. |
