Furyon's sound is rather modern with lots of pinches and squeals on the guitar as well as plenty of studio effects, especially on the vocals. The band that jumped into my head almost immediately was Warrior Soul, circa their debut Last Decade Dead Century. I liked that album's aggressive, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal vibe when it was released but the over-produced, artificial sound got stale quickly and it hasn't aged well. Furyon's Gravitas is well played and the guitar solos are pretty good, but there is simply too much studio B.S. in the way. The acoustic bonus tracks are actually the best things on the album. "Voodoo Me," which sounds like an attempt at a single, is still not a great song, but sounds better minus all the layering. The acoustic version of "Souvenirs," on the other hand, with just guitars vocals, is well written and quite powerful. Other than that, however, there's not much here worth your time. |
