So here we have the latest demo from Refusal. Refusal are a death metal band hailing from Finland, although their style belies what I have come to expect from their country and this sounds a lot more akin to the US school of death metal.
There isn't a lot to say about the four tracks here, they all blaze past without really grabbing me. I've heard this kind of stuff time and time again, and unfortunately for Refusal they include some god-awful vocals that really turn me off. The standard death growls are quality and I can't understand why they felt the need to add some ridiculous shrieked/gargled parts, they really hurt my ears.
The riffs are good enough, and this is definitely better than some of the crap I've heard. I'd say a slight cut above average for a death metal fan, but for anyone outside of the genre there is little on offer; the appeal here lies solely in its genre.
