Revtend are a Portuguese thrash metal act, and their sound is a veritable blend of been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. Mixing the likes of Testament, Metallica, Exodus, and Slayer, this could be further simplified by saying that the band basically sounds like Evile, although Revtend's ideas aren't as well developed as Evile's are. Revtend strangely enough boast the best James Hetfield wannabe I've ever heard, there's seriously a good few moments across Welcome to Hell where it's difficult to tell the two apart. Aside from that the band doesn't really boast anything else that interesting. The music is without a doubt of a good quality, but it's just so bloody standard. There's nothing here you haven't heard before, it's typical thrash and there is a ridiculous amount of bands doing this sound these days. Another thing with Welcome to Hell is that the songs seem to be long for the sake of being long, the arrangements are for the most part standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/riff/solo/riff/chorus etc and there isn't much reason these tracks need to be as long as they are. I can't find much to recommend here, unless you happen to live for all things thrash metal. The band has talent but they need an injection of good ideas and shorter songs before they can fly with me. Average at best. |
