Bay-area Thrash which strays little from the accepted sound is what you get with Fire at Will, the debut album from Norway's Wyruz. Slayer is clearly a major influence and singer/guitarist Vegar Larsen does a fair Tom Araya shout. By the sound of it, all of the musicians in Wyruz are fairly accomplished. The playing on Fire at Will is very tight. The riffs are sharp and aggressive, the solos precise and melodic and the drumming pounding, but not over the top. Fire at Will is great fun while it is on, but it doesn't have much staying power. It lacks a memorable riff that sticks in your head. All the same, fans of Slayer, Exodus, Forbidden, et al would be wise to check out Fire at Will and keep an eye on Wyruz. |
