This is the debut full-length for Sacred Gate, whose demo/EP Creators of the Downfall I reviewed a little while ago. Four of the six songs on that recording make a return appearance here, but the other five are brand new, and the old songs sound much better this time out - obviously they got the chance to re-record them for this.

Sacred Gate are very into Iron Maiden, with the melodic lead riffs and the twin-guitar sound. They also take a good bit from older US metal like Helstar or Deadly Blessing with a heavier attack and darker riffs. This is a good mix, and even if these guys don't manage to make anything really fresh out of their influences, they do up a solid disc. This won't blow your mind or anything, but it is a strong debut from a band who will bear watching.
