Malediction is the latest release by former Cradle of Filth backing vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva. I've not heard her two prior albums but I can say this EP features some high quality Gothic Metal. Sarah has a clear, powerful voice and doesn't fall into the trap of trying to sound operatic. She effortlessly projects the emotion that is crucial to good Gothic Metal. Her backing band is top notch and the songs are melancholic and catchy at the same time. Two of the songs on Malediction are "beauty and the beast" duets; "Lies Define Us," with Soilwork's Bjorn Strid and "This is My Curse," with Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth. I will be crossing my fingers that Sarah's next album will match the height of the bar set by the three songs on Malediction. In the meantime, fans of Epic, Coronatus, Imperia and the like are not going to want to miss this one. Additional Information Digital-only release |
