This band, believe it or not, used to be called "Gaywire" before they came to their fucking senses and switched to Razorwyre, which while plenty stupid, at least isn't. . . well, you know. Anyway, there are plenty of bands with embarrassing names (Vulvagun, Lechery) who manage to rock anyway, and these guys do it well. This is just a big, loud, fun album of classic metal. This disc is blaring NWOBHM riffs, melodic leads, catchy choruses and a general vibe of rocking, throw-the-horns gusto that never lets up. Razorwyre are not a serious band - they never really try to seem like one - but they kick ass and they keep kicking it. Vocalist "Z Chylde" has quite obvious limitations, and they could do with a better singer, but he attacks the material with energy and confidence. The guitar work here is just a delight, with addictive chugging riffs and some really first-rate lead work. This band is mining a vein Accept pioneered decades ago, but they remembered that this kind of thing is 90% raging guitars and attitude. Worthy. |
