Based on the bio sheet included with Impuritan's 3-song demo CD, this is a band/project in flux. Guitarist Rob Knopff seems to be the only permanent member with session drummers and vocalists rounding out the recording ensemble. Session drummer Dan Klein, who wrote the bio, adds that the songs are un-edited and un-quantized, the musicians involved opting for a more "live" feel. Speaking of the music, it is brutal, God-hating Black/Death and it sounds good. If the lack of studio enhancements is to be believed, that makes all the members involved pretty damn talented. The guitars are given plenty of space to be heard and the thrashy riffs are like a scythe. The drums are played with the requisite speed and the vocals are a combination of Death Growls and occasional Black screams. There are no additional enhancements, i.e. keyboards. Impuritan wants to convey grim hatred and blackness with no filters. This stuff is hardly original but if the band can settle on any kind of a solid lineup, and maintain the talent level present on this demo, they might be on to something. |
