Here's another goodie from Poland's Hellthrasher Productions; Death Metal, courtesy of Turkey's Engulfed. The band's 4-track EP, Through the Eternal Damnation, has murky, dark and eerie nuances of both old-school Scandinavian and American-style Death Metal, à la old Immolation, Morbid Angel and the like. Engulfed have borrowed the best elements from both worlds, using them effectively in their well-executed and memorable Death Metal. It reminds me of the early 90's when we went nuts for any new Death Metal band that came our way. I can't say I went completely nuts hearing Through the Eternal Damnation, no matter how many times I heard it on my Chinese-made Sony Walkman, but it still served me well. The EP simply reeks of the heyday of Death Metal before it started crumbling like Erzsébet Báthory's infamous bloodstained castle. Enfulged plays a pretty badass brand of Death Metal. Old school is back and this Turkish trio is well aware of that fact. |
