Bulgaria's Wartime put forth a pretty good slab of power thrashing metal with their sophomore effort Solar Messiah which draws comparisons to Communic, Manticora and early Nevermore straight off the bat. I wasn't expecting too much going in, but this is some pretty cool stuff and I'm surprised a label like Nightmare Records haven't already picked these guys up. Performances across the board are stellar, from the passionate vocals which boast a good deal of character to the proficient guitar solos, sure to sate the appetites of all the shredders out there. The songs are largely well done; from faster, pugilistic numbers favoring the thrash element of the band's sound to the likes of "Memories" which shows the band have some serious melodic chops in their arsenal. Overall this is well done, and definitely worth checking out for those who like their power metal to be heavy or their thrash to be melodic. |
