This is a band supposedly made up of members of better-known bands playing anonymously, which is a very BM kind of conceit. From the song titles and such it's pretty plain this band is pretentious as hell, so the question is: is their pretension producing anything cool? This isn't bad, but it's not really doing anything amazing either. You get standard tremolo riffage with a good recording job, standard screaming vocals, and quite a bit of atmospheric interlude with acoustic guitars and such. Some of the riffs are quite good, but the vocals are a kind of monotone rasping that gets pretty damned boring after a few songs. I had hoped this would be able to break out of stale forms and do something as ambitious as this band obviously wants to be, but no such luck. Not terrible, but not really good either. |
