Grief of Emerald were out of the game for almost a decade, splitting up after 2002's Christian Termination only to come back in 2011 to little fanfare with The Devil's Deep. This is their second comeback album, and they offer no surprises with more of the same Death/Black blasting they have always sold. The truth is Grief of Emerald sound almost exactly like fellow Swedes Marduk, just with some keyboards to leaven the aggression and provide some atmosphere. So if you liked the more recent Marduk albums, then you will like this just fine. There never was and is not now anything essential about Grief of Emerald, but this is listenable for fans of the genre. |
