This is yet another project by Swedish workaholic Roger "Rogga" Johansson, also of Paganizer, The Grotesquery, Ribspreader, Those Who Bring The Torture, Bone Gnawer, and about 9 other Swedish Death Metal bands. This is a guy who pretty much lives and breathes the old-school heaviness of 90s Swedish Death, and this album is no kind of exception to that. If you have heard one of Rogga's projects, then you can imagine how this is going to sound. This is old-style Swedish Death with no frills and no surprises, just chugging, ultra-heavy riffs, guttural Lovecraftian bellowing, and that distinctive buzzsaw guitar sound. If you like his other stuff, then you will like this (though for my money The Grotesquery are better), and conversely if you are uninterested in stolid, retro Swedish DM, then this will not change your mind. Solid and enjoyable, if predictable. |
