Guerra Total, Total War in English, is a Colombian trio that started out as Eternal Drak back in 1997 but changed names in 2002. Guerra Total's second full-length studio album, Más Allá de la Tumba, was originally put out on Iron Shield Records (with two bonus tracks and a different mix) but it has now been re-released by Mexico's American Line Productions, this time with a "goat logo," a different layout and limited to 500 copies. South America has always had a reputation for killer Metal acts so dropping names at this point is unnecessary. Colombia's Guerra Total plays a mix of what I call pure yet filthy and nasty Speed Metal with a twist of proto-Black Metal. It is a sound I have always found appealing and this time is no exception. There's something truly honest in Guerra Total's "rehearsal space" sound on this 9-track album. The Bulldozer-meets-Whiplash-meets-Slayer musical concept works quite nicely, offering kicks for all speed merchants and head bangers. That's all they offer and that's all you'll need to get your hunger satisfied for the stuff they perform. Not bad, but not all that mind-blowing either. |
