When I saw this billed as "Lovecraftian Black Doom" I was all like "Hell yes!" and then I listened to it and was just kind of waiting for the music to start. I'm still waiting. This is trying to pull a kind of doomy Hellhammer vibe, with simplistic riffs and Tom Warrior-styled grunting, but the instrumentation and production are so feeble they take what could have been a good idea and render it boring as fuck. These songs are all like 7 or 8 minutes long, and they consist of one riff played over and over by one guitar plugged into a crappy, single-channel amp. It sounds so small and unexciting it's like listening to paint dry. I kept waiting for the amps to kick in and some heaviness to start up, but no, this just kind of sleepwalks along the whole time, sounding like something recorded in a closet with the microphone in another room altogether. Tedious as hell. |
