This is an evil little 7" split from the Good Samaritans over at Hells Headbangers. U.S.-based Death Metal bands The Spawn of Satan and Sathanas have teamed up to offer a couple of blasphemous hymns extolling the Devil. First up we get "Ritual Murder" from Cleveland, Ohio's The Spawn of Satan. Surprisingly decipherable Death Growls belch out great, cheesy lines like "you'll be dead right after I cave your skull in with a fucking rock!" and "rrrooooaaaarrrrrrrr!" The guitars alternate between Thrash riffing and proto-Black buzzing but the drums are rather tinny. Next up is "Unholy Eternal" from Pennsylvania's long-standing Sathanas. Just as stripped down, Sathanas pitch a much more blackened style of Death Metal. The drums are even faster and the vocals less understandable and much raspier. Both songs are pure, old-school Death Metal at heart. Neither band is going for an original sound, just worshiping at the black altars of Possessed and Morbid Angel. Ritual Murder/Unholy Eternal offers just the right amount of sacrilegious murder for the casual fan. Set your expectations appropriately and you won't be disappointed. |
