For starters I need to admit that I am not very fond of the Metal scene in Paraguay. However, like so many other South American countries, Paraguay does have some potentially good acts crawling out from deep and dark catacombs. The Black/Death Metal horde Ekron Cult (that has relocated to Chile) is one. Ekron Cult is a primitive and raw-sounding entity, reminding me of the early demo days of bands like Brazil's Sepultura and Vulcano, Australia's Slaughter Lord and even Germany's Sodom (making it no surprise they covered "Burst Command 'til War" on this album). I think it's all that prime rawness and brutality in Ekron Cult that make them a fascinating act, feeding the nostalgic part of my brain. Ekron Cult do kick ass to a certain degree although it must be said this stuff tends to wear out its welcome quickly. I can easily see many fists raised up among die-hard, old school Metal maniacs that want their Metal raw, primitive and brutal. You can judge for yourself. Bottom line; this isn't the kind of stuff for wimps and posers, that's for sure. |
