This is one of those bands that seems to be called "gothic" just because they have a girl singer. Maija Saari has a solid clean voice, but her growls are awful and should be ditched. Some of the melodeath/Arch Enemy-style riffs here are pretty good workouts in galloping heaviness, but they don't so much come together in really solid songs. Saari's clean singing does a lot to add catchiness to the proceedings, and it kind of seems like the harsh vocals are just here to try and retain some kind of extreme metal cred. I'd say the band should not bother with that, as if they just combined their melodeath grooves with Saari's powerful belting they'd sound much more individual, and less like they were trying to be Disarmonia Mundi. |
