EP from a fairly new Italian BM band.who put out their debut full-length back in 2008. Not a good start to this, as it takes them three and a half minutes to stop with the atmospheric wanking and get down to business. When they finally do things improve a bit, but not very much. The guitar tone is weak and the riffs are pretty dull. The vocals are a nice glass-gargling screech, but the songwriting is completely standard and gets old fast - it's not a good sign when an eighteen-minute EP seems too long. I mostly hung on because I wanted to see how badly they mangled the cover of "Equimanthorn" at the end. People always think early Bathory is easy to cover because the instrumentation is so basic, but it's actually not that easy to do. Well, they don't butcher the song, but it's not an essential version or anything. What I can't get is, if they are so into Bathory, how the rest of their songwriting is so dull. |
