Long-time Thrash fans will recognize Hatriot singer Steve "Zetro" Souza as the front man on classic Exodus albums like Pleasures of the Flesh and Fabulous Disaster. Rest assured, the years since Souza left Exodus have done little to diminish the anger and fire in his voice. He's surrounded himself with an absolute crack band that includes his sons, Cody (bass) and Nick (drums), on Hatriot's debut, Heroes of Origin. These guys are tight as a fist, one they will happily put in your eye if you aren't careful. The album starts off with the pedal to the metal and almost never lets up. Riffs and solos are piled high upon the Souza rhythm section, with Zetro screaming bloody murder over the top. The pace is non-stop, with the exception of "Shadows of the Buried" which starts with an evil, simmering riff that gives way occasionally to Heroes of Origin's hallmark speed. The songs are hardly original and get just a bit monotonous, but over all, this entire album is pure, unadulterated Thrash goodness. If Exodus, Overkill, Nuclear Assault and the like were your cup of tea back in the 80s, you're going to need to make room in the CD rack for Heroes of Origin. |
