The Invasion is a tight little Death/Thrash EP from India's Devoid. It might seem odd but the instrumental opener, "Prelude," is probably the best song on here. Devoid creates some great atmosphere with a slow, brooding tempo and sparse instrumentation. If they had injected some of those things into the rest of The Invasion, they'd have had something special. As it is, there's nothing wrong with the rest of the EP. It is standard ultra-fast, ultra-tight Death/Thrash. The guitars have a nice angry buzz and the drums sound like actual drums vs. plastic 5-gallon buckets. Devoid can play and if they can step up their songwriting creativity, they could be a force. There's nothing new on The Invasion but fans of thrashy Death Metal will have a hard time not enjoying it. |
