Decapitated Christ are a Spanish Death Metal band who are all about the classic DM scene of the late 80s/early 90s - Morbid Angel, Obituary, Deicide, etc. With their spiky logo and catchy riffage, I would say Deicide and Morbid Angel are the main touchstones for what they do, except they are not all about speed to the exclusion of all else. It's more of a vibe they are aiming for than any one thing about their sound. You get a lot of hammering drums, throaty croaking vocals, and a blistering array of cool riffs. This band has a much more Trad Metal style of riffing than the usual bullshit used by clickety-click DM bands, so the songs are much more snappy and catchy that you normally get with this kind of music. The whole approach makes for a sound that is retro without being imitative of any one band, and it makes the album really stand out. Sharp, solid, memorable Death Metal that rips shit up like it was still 1989. |
