As Death Awakes is the debut from Austria's Deathstorm. The music is a mix of old school Thrash and a modern, blackened approach. Speed is a unifying theme, though Deathstorm slow the pace here and there and that actually helps the flow of the album. The vocals are a tortured scream that takes the wild, manic delivery of Tom Araya on Show No Mercy up a couple of notches. It is an almost Black/Death affair when the band really cranks up the tempo on tracks like "Prepare for the Slaughter." Other times it is pure Thrash especially on "Nebelhexe," one of the best Thrash instrumentals I've heard in a long time. If speedy Thrash is your drug, Deathstorm have your fix. |
