Damnation Angels' debut full-length, Bringer of Light, came to me labeled as Gothic Metal and there are definitely touches of that throughout the album, but I hear Symphonic Power Metal emanating from my speakers when it is on. There are plenty of double-kicks and catchy choruses on tracks like "The Longest Day of My Life" and "I Hope" that should please fans of Rhapsody, Ancient Bards and the like. The slower pieces are gloomy without being depressing and the effect is a little like listening to Kamelot's The Black Halo, though the songwriting isn't nearly at the same level. Bringer of Light is well played though not overly original but Symphonic Metal fans should give it a listen. Damnation Angels could be a force and are a band to watch. |
