The Chilean underground Metal scene has been strong and worth checking out for the last three decades. There are a bunch of bands that have a lot to offer, musically. Atomic Aggressor, Torturer, Melektaus, Dominus Xul, Orategod, Thornafire and so many others, have kept the flag of quality Metal flying high. Unholy, dark, old school Death Metal is what Praise the Flame, from Santiago, offer us. Their 5-track EP, Profane Cult, delivers some of the most hateful, aggressive and smartly written Death Metal tunes I have heard in quite a long time. Most big labels avoid this type of Death Metal like the plague these days. Praise the Flame are simply too un-commercial so, thankfully, smaller independent labels like Chile's Apocalyptic ZineProds, who care in the slightest if make a profit, are there to get this music out to the masses. If you have heard LA's Sadistic Intent, then undoubtedly you will love Praise the Flame. To me they sound very much like Sadistic Intent's younger brother. They are evil, crushing, ravenous and downright blasphemous. Support Praise the Flame because they won't let you down. |
