I have to say I was expecting something a little more... face-breaking from Swedish death metal act Facebreaker's fourth full-length release Dedicated To The Flesh. What the band serves up is a slab of decidedly standard death metal, blending in their homegrown style with a modern US approach. The riffs are largely simple and groove-laden, easy enough to nod along to, although certainly nothing to write home about. This really is something that could be said about the whole album. With one foot in the old school and the other in the new, I'd say there is definitely some appeal for this, especially if you're in the market for some no-frills death metal. Personally I don't think there's any one aspect to lift Dedicated To The Flesh above the legions of competition, although the lead guitars are very well done. Death metal aficionados will likely want to give this a look and the rest can probably skip this one. |
