Finland's Lord Fist is another young band with the aim of channeling the 80s. They play straight-up Traditional Heavy Metal with an unpolished, low-fi sound and a lot of energy. The riffs are crunchy and guitarists Niko Kolehmainen and Perttu Koivunen trade bright solos and runs up and down the fret boards freely. Lyrically, they veer away from the usual topics of music and women and go for the fantasy-based approach. The vocal lines are simple and Koivunen, who doubles as Lord Fist's singer, doesn't try to do anything beyond his limited means. None of the four songs on this EP does anything to distinguish itself from any of the others nor, for that matter, from any of the hundreds of other songs in this style, so Wordless Wisdom of Lord Fist isn't mandatory. Still, if something that evokes a cross between Di'Anno-era Iron Maiden and early Warlord sounds intriguing, Lord Fist might be right up your alley. |
