Finland's Axegressor has been slowly building a reputation as one of the better kick-ass Thrash Metal bands with each new release. I am glad to say the band's third studio album, Last, sees the trend continue.
Last contains nine songs of aggressive, heavy and face-ripping Thrash Metal that unceremoniously marries Slayer to both Kreator and Destruction. It borrows from early Slayer as well as from the darker and nastier side of Teutonic Thrash Metal, making Last quite a neck-snapping experience. The guitar incessant attack is delightfully crispy, which I like a lot, and is supported by Johnny Nuclear Winter's harsh vocal delivery, which provides an extra dose of severity. With songs like "Social Pressure" and "Command to Last" the Axegressor troops attack from all directions, mercilessly beating us down with a blitzkrieg of old school Thrash Metal.
It's been nice to see Axegressor sharpening their sound over the years by paying attention to the little details on every release. Their lyrics are something they have put quite a lot of effort into, in that they are cleverly and, at times, very humorously written. Last is absolutely one of the best Thrash Metal releases I have heard in a quite while and it is Axegressor's most mature and, not so surprisingly, best recording to date. Get this.
