Damage Dancer is the sixth full-length from Germany's Heavy Metal/Hard Rock warriors Gun Barrel and if the title seems strange and has you a little worried, you should be. These guys have never been the heaviest band, nor were they were going for that. But you could always count on them to walk the line between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal and while their albums certainly had some filler, there were usually several solid anthems. Damage Dancer has a more pronounced Hard Rock vibe than Gun Barrel's past releases. There are still some good tracks like "Ride the Dragon" and the title cut, but there is far more filler this time around and a lot of it sounds like Guns 'n' Roses or Cinderella. Vocalist Patrick Sühl does a dead-on Axl Rose in a couple of spots (check out "Bashing Thru," which is replete with cow bell) and a lot of the riffs are definitely blues-based.

I don't hate Damage Dancer but if I want this kind of music I'll spin Appetite for Destruction or Night Songs. If I want Gun Barrel, I'm going with Outlaw Invasion or even Battle-Tested.
