Boken om förbannelsen is a compilation of singles released by Sweden's Burning Saviours between 2011 and 2013. The band plays a melodic Doom that straddles the line between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock much in the same way pioneering bands like Black Sabbath and Pentagram did back in the 70s. The guitars are fuzzy, but not overly so, the vocals are clear and the effects are old school while the production is modern and clean. Tempos are slow, but not dirge-like, and the songs are all quite melodic. There are occasional vocal lines that remind me a bit of Cirith Ungol. Boken om förbannelsen isn't particularly unique and is by no means the heaviest thing you're going to hear but as a throwback to the birth of Doom, it does quite well. |
