Dum Spiro Spero is the title of the second album from Swiss Death Metal commandos Nihilo and the band members' love for old school Death Metal is undeniable, in-fucking-deed.

These masters of old school Death Metal adhere to traditional, underground values which means keeping the music heavy, brutal and old school and spitting on the modern, plastic and over-polished sound. That always works, at least for most of us Death Metal fans. It is names such as Sadistic Intent, Demigod, Deicide and the like that this record will remind you of. Ragulan Vivekananthan, the main bastard responsible for the gut-wrenching grunts on this opus, must confuse people with his deceptive, yet tasteful, Glen Benton imitation. At times, it's like Mr. Benton himself may have made a guest appearance or two on this particular record.

Nihilo's music is pure Death Metal in the truest sense of the word (with bold capital letters, if you want). There's no room for fancy melodies; this is dark, vicious, heavy and brutal Death Metal, the way I want it. At times, I even thought of the words "sinfully impressive" because every time I gave this disc a listen, it sent cold shivers down my spine. That's always a good sign, don't you think?

Get Dum Spiro Spero if you want to enjoy one of the better Death Metal releases of 2014. Nihilo wants you and you'll want them right back.
