Germany's Dust Bolt is a young and oddly named Thrash Metal band and Awake the Riot is their second full-length. Fast, staccato riffs, with a dense rhythm section, characterizes the playing and the half-sung/half-shouted, petulant vocals and squealing solos give them a sound that can best be described by imagining putting Mike Muir and Kerry King into Nuclear Assault. Everything is tough and aggressive and is the kind of old-school Thrash that conjures long-forgotten memories of pits and stage-diving from back in the 80s. The songwriting is very safe and Dust Bolt isn't pushing the envelope much but the playing is good and the riffs are killer. Awake the Riot is definitely one for fans of old-school Thrash. |
