Here's Vader's...I mean Nile's new...umm, what I am trying to say is that German Death Metal troops Maat's debut album, As We Create the Hope from Above, has received much praise in the worldwide press and among the fans of Death Metal in general as well. Maat is labeled under the category "Egyptian" Death Metal as the band name already suggests; Maat being the ancient Egyptian goddess of mythology, if you were wondering. Musically they fucking deliver, I can tell you. Pompous and heavy with a big sound and nice flow, this Egyptian-tinged Death Metal is very carefully crated and boasts some really good ideas. Think of Nile with less of the Egyptian elements then add the blistering intensity found on Vader's albums. This is top-quality Death Metal and, even if Maat aren't re-inventing the wheel, they have created a very enjoyable album that undoubtedly will turn many heads in their direction. As We Create the Hope from Above is an excellent start from these German Death Metal soldiers and if they are able add a few more unique ideas into their sound then the sky is the limit. This is one of the most convincing Death Metal albums of 2014, without a doubt. |
