Most of us are fully aware of the fact Norway has something of a Black Metal tradition, so let's let that case rest. Norway has also ruled many other sub-genres of Metal as well and there are countless examples out there of the phenomenal Norwegian Metal scene (no need for name dropping). From the city of Jæren comes this 5-piece Metal act named Escapetor, a band that has been creating some noise since 1999. Escapator blend Heavy Rock/Metal with Thrash and they do it successfully. There's a freshness to their sound and they seem to be striving for something unique instead of trying to figure out how to plagiarize the sound of this or that band. In fact, on their second full-length studio album Fear, Escapetor have done some solid work maintaining that standard of originality. This is hook-filled, sweetly flowing Heavy Metal and Heavy Rock, done to the best of the band members' abilities. Vocalist Claudius Bormuth has a similar rasp in his voice to that of Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. and, at times, manages to sound like a younger version of Blackie, best heard on the song "Mr Hyde." Is there much else that can be said about Escapetor? Very good stuff pretty much sums it up. |
