Mexico's Regnum Irae are a band with near-Death vocals and that play a standard, Crossover-influenced frenetic style of Thrash Metal. There's a good mix of the old and the new in their sound, which is complimented by some, spoken word/movie quotes and some sci-fi/dystopian technology elements peppered throughout their debut album Reino de la Ira. The lyrics are in Spanish and it isn't often I hear that language sound this good in a Metal context. Despite the little flourishes here and there, the songs are not very distinctive and the songwriting is derivative but they are enthusiastically played so the band has that going for them. Otherwise, there aren't a lot of reasons to seek this one out as you can get the same aggressive Thrash Metal from a million other bands. |
