Interceptor is an Italian Thrash band that plays music in a very Forbidden-inspired way. The guitars are sharp and staccato and the vocals biting and powerful. The title of their debut album, Wise is the Beast...but the Hunter Doesn’t Know, is clumsy but that shouldn’t deter you from checking out the music inside. There’s nothing new but it’s played with a high level of energy and enthusiasm that will suck you in if you are fan of old-school Thrash. "Sturm und Drang" has a definite Overkill vibe due to the vocals and the very melodic riff but by the time "Insane by Wrath" wraps up some Slayer worship, you’re in full-on Twisted Into Form mode. Interceptor doesn’t take their influences beyond what the originators did so they aren’t going to replace any of your heroes at the top of your playlists but Wise is the Beast... is a worthy addition to your Thrash Metal collection. |
