This is the fifth studio album by the massively underrated Germans of Brainstorm, and the third with the great Andy B. Franck on vocals. Alongside Ambiguity, this is definitely their best effort and features some of the best songwriting in their careers. What we have here is a lesson on how to make quality Power Metal, featuring the aforementioned great songwriting, the unmistakable and characteristic riffs by Milan Loncaric and Torsten Ihlenfeld, mesmerizing solos, and powerful, yet melodic vocals. The album starts with "Highs Without Lows", a good balance between heaviness and melody, with a catchy chorus. From here on, we have a beautiful display of the band’s musical virtuosity in each of the songs. "Doorway to Survive" and "To the Head" offer a heavier approach, as "Nunca nos Rendimos" and "Rising" have more of a mid-paced vibe to it, giving a good balance to the album and never letting the listener get bored. It also features the "magnum-opus" of Brainstorm’s career, "Trinity of Lust", which has a middle-eastern atmosphere, consisting of "Shiva’s Tears" (the best song of the album, in my opinion), "Fornever" and the title track, "Soul Temptation". This is a serious work by a talented band, inspired by the most prolific metal melodies. It is beautiful, dense, atmospheric, catchy and heavy. If you like Paragon, late Angel Dust, Tad Morose and such, you’ll find yourself banging to this for a long, long time. Embrace this majestic piece of music and you will see what the power of a great Heavy Metal album is all about. |
