The Other Side of Darkness is the second release from Salt Lake City, Utah’s Deathblow and follows their full-length debut, 2014’s Prognosis Negative. I haven’t heard the band’s earlier material but this EP is full of unabashed Slayer worship, specifically the Show No Mercy/Hell Awaits/Reign in Blood era. If you like your Thrash speedy with bludgeoning riff work and half-sung/half-shouted vocals The Other Side of Darkness is for you. The similarities are broad and obvious so don’t expect to hear anything you haven’t heard before but it is played well with convincing enthusiasm. I’d like to hear this band do something a little different in the future, you know, take the sound and make it their own but in the meantime this should have Thrash fans in general and Slayer fans in particular itching to jump into the nearest mosh pit. |
