Well now, this is fun. Hazy Hamlet's first album was just kind of silly and imitative, and they still have that goofy name, but this album is miles better. This is a band you would swear are German if nobody told you different, as they are mining the crap out of that rough and ready Teutonic vein that brought us bands like Running Wild and Grave Digger. There's nothing on this album that fans of the style have not heard before, but here it is being done up right with smoking riffs, Rock 'n Rolf-styled vocals, and a lot of metal attitude. Songs like "Symphony of Steel" and "Jaws of Fenris" chug and thunder along quite nicely, and the only song that doesn't really work is "Vendetta". If you like bands like Lonewolf or Battlerage, then this is an album to check the fuck out. |
