One of about 30 bands by the name of Armageddon listed at Metal-Archives, this one hails from Sweden and is the now full-time endeavor of former Arch Enemy guitarist Christopher Arnott. The band's fourth album, Captivity & Devourment, has a real "Death and Roll" vibe as it features a lot of Traditional Metal riffs to go with the (mostly) Death vocals. Armageddon also doesn't stick to just pounding the listener with speed and riffs and that gives Captivity & Devourment a touch of the unique. When you add in things like the creepy keyboards on "Fugitive Dust" and the acoustic instrumental "Background Radiation" you end up with pretty cool synthesis of styles. I have to say the quality of the songwriting isn't equal to the diversity of the songs but I still found Captivity & Devourment a lot of fun. I would like to tell you this album is killer but it is not quite there. I will give Armageddon credit for trying some different things and I hope they can ratchet up the songwriting for the next one. If they do that, I'll be all in.
