Is Ukraine's D.Hate a Slayer tribute band? I mean, the album cover of L.I.F.E. looks a bit like South of Heaven's. In my opinion, anyway. That's it for the Slayer comparisons. Musically, D-Hate's second album is quite far removed from the sound that makes Slayer Slayer. There's Thrash Metal, there's Groove Metal and there's even some modern and brutal Death Metal squeezed into this record. At times vocalist Maxim reminds me of Necrophagia's Killjoy with his sick grunts but when he focuses on horrendous pig squealing, I am brought up short and start to lose interest. I simply cannot stand them. L.I.F.E. would be much better without. Otherwise, D.Hate's modern and groovy, Thrash-based Metal is carefully crafted, a fact that cannot be ignored. At times they are actually quite appealing here and there like when they concentrate on churning out heavy, jaw-breaking riffs like on "Provocation" and "Lunacy." They should do songs like this more often and ditch the irritating pig squealing. Not complete garbage here but nothing that impressive either. |
