KA-BOOM...!!!!! Chilean Thrash tornado Ripper is here, ripping us to little pieces with their aggressive old school Thrash Metal anthems. The Raising the Corpse/Fatal Memories compilation contains 15 tracks culled from the band's debut album Raising the Corpse and the limited 5-track Fatal Memories cassette plus a cover of Aberration's "Venus Torment" as a bonus. What you can expect from Ripper is Thrash Metal in the vein of Sepultura's Schizophrenia, Kreator's Pleasure to Kill and Demolition Hammer's Tortured Existence with even overtones of Death's Leprosy album (especially the Fatal Memories material). It's a pretty awesome mixture of Thrash/Death Metal that pays homage to the times when those classic releases were given birth to, some 25 years ago. This is an essential release and as important as the albums listed above and I can't stop praising it. Hell, vocalist/guitarist Patricio Spalinger (a.k.a. Venus Torment) sounds like a more disturbed version of Mille from Kreator while bassist Pablo Cortés proves to be as skilled a 4-string punisher as Steve DiGiorgio or Roger Patterson (R.I.P.). I admit I am floored. Everything on this album reeks of the mid/late eighties Thrash Metal that we all will cherish for the rest of our lives. Thrash Metal done right, simple as that! Ripper rules in the ruins! \m/ |
