Hailing from the Stockholm area of Sweden, this 3-piece Black Metal band called Necrophor formed just three years ago. The band's previous demos, 2013's Verbum Vexillifer and 2014's The Eye of Terror, were both recorded at the famous Sunlight Studio in Stockholm but their latest demo, Exterminatus, was done using a home/rehearsal approach; a DIY production all the way. Necrophor counts on mid-paced and slower riffing accompanied by cleverly played, sorrowful and even menacing guitar melodies making it very easy to like them. At times a listener may link them to country mates Dissection or Dark Funeral mostly due to those familiar guitar harmonies. And even though this demo was recorded DIY and lacks power and quality in the production (the drums suffer the most) it still manages to speak to the potential possessed by Necrophor. These promising Swedes know what they are capable of creating so hopefully the next outing will be a full-length studio album recorded at a real studio. I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for their future output. |
