I really liked Damnation Angels’ debut Bringer of Light but I cannot say the same of the follow-up The Valiant Fire. Where Bringer was a smooth, symphonic slab of Power Metal, The Valiant Fire is a collection of limp Hard Rock melodies masquerading as Gothic Metal. There’s nothing remotely catchy in the quagmire of mid-paced tempos and some of the riffs sound like cast-offs from a Creed or Nickelback album (most notably "The Passing"). Even the cover art, which looks like something out of Dumbledore’s pensive, could be from an Evanescence record. Don’t bother with this bait-and-switch offering from Damnation Angels. |
