It is no secret that Death Metal isn't my favorite genre but good Metal is good Metal and Philly's Horrendous definitely play good Metal. The music on their third album Anareta is melodic without losing the thrashy edge that defines Death Metal. The vocals are neither cookie monster burping nor pseudo-Death clear singing, just an angry, guttural growl and the songwriting complicated without being self-indulgent so I wouldn't call Anareta "technical" but maybe "progressive." I don't hear anything particularly special from Horrendous and I would say Anareta is above average but not essential. |
