North Carolina's Heavy Metal heroes Dogbane have always more or less leaned on the traditional sounds of Metal. That means a mixture of traditional Metal/NWOBHM with slices of good old 70s and 80s Doom Metal (Pentagram, The Obsessed, Count Raven and such) have been the sources of Dogbane's inspiration. When Karma Comes Calling, the quintet's second album, is a winner if you happen to adore 70s and 80s Heavy Metal especially the NWOBHM and proto-Doom Metal. Do they know their shit? Yes, they do and they let the fans enjoy it as much as they do. There's nothing in Dogbane's approach to Heavy Metal that most of us have not heard before but when a band delivers the goods the way Dogbane do, there's no reason to not like them. My favorite track is "Devil by the Horns" as the song is groovy and catchy as hell. Plus, a cowbell is always a definite plus and helps to capture the 70s vibe and feeling perfectly. Bill Ward and Black Sabbath...now who said that? ;o) Nothing more needs to be said except get When Karma Comes Calling. It's by no means perfect but you don't have to be afraid of the album collecting dust either. |
